A Legacy of Peacekeeping

Distinguished members of the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, regional organizations, and non-aligned movements, as I stand before you today, I am filled with nostalgia reflecting on my experiences as a member of the United Nations Advance Mission in Cambodia (UNAMIC) in 1992 and later with the United Nations Transitional Authority in East Timor (UNTAET) in 2000. These pivotal moments in my career have not only shaped my understanding of international relations but have also strengthened my resolve for a world rooted in peace and collaboration.

A Call to Action

Today, as I speak not just as a candidate for the office of Secretary-General, I embody the hopes and aspirations of billions who look to the United Nations (UN) as the custodian of peace, justice, and dignity. Our mission is clear: to foster an environment where diplomacy reigns, where conflicts are resolved through dialogue, and where the rights of every individual are upheld across borders. To dismiss this pursuit would be to turn our backs on the shared humanity that unites us.

Building Bridges, Not Walls

In an era marked by division and discord, it is paramount that we prioritize the establishment of long-lasting peace. My campaign, epitomized by the hashtag #Taiwo4GlobalPeace, is a rallying cry for cooperation, understanding, and collective action. We are at a critical juncture in history, where decisive steps must be taken to address the global crises we face—be it armed conflicts, climate change, or the burgeoning refugee crises that remind us of our obligation to one another.

The work of the UN is more important than ever. It is within our grasp to create an inclusive dialogue that respects the voices of all nations, particularly those that have been marginalized in the past. We must learn from each other’s experiences and foster relationships that diminish mistrust and build bridges over the chasms that separate us.

As nations, we not only owe it to ourselves but to future generations to strive for a world rooted in peace, shared prosperity, and mutual respect. I implore all members of this assembly to reflect on the responsibilities we carry and to respond to my call with conviction and purpose. It is time for us to stand together, not just as representatives of our nations, but as harbingers of a new chapter in global diplomacy, where peace is not an abstract ideal but a tangible reality.

Let us become beacons of hope, championing the principles of solidarity and togetherness. The world is watching, and the time for decisive action is now. The journey ahead is fraught with challenges, but united, we can illuminate the path toward global peace.
